3 Internet Security Must-Haves for Protecting Yourself Online

It sucks to get hacked. Don’t let that be you.

I didn’t bother to learn anything about internet security until I started working with cryptography nerds. Over the years I learned how my lazy habits made me vulnerable to hackers. Now I use these simple tools to protect my identity, data, and treasure.

Do these three things to protect yourself before you wreck yourself…

1. Cover Your Webcam Lens While Not in Use

Attackers may be able to access your computer’s built-in webcam. Not only is this creepy but can threaten your internet security. There’s a cheap & easy fix for this. These stick-on lens covers are easy to install and offer complete protection.

Make sure your video is only on when you want it to be! 😉

2. Use a Password Manager

To keep your login information safe, it’s best to use a unique password for every website you use. This saves you from being affected by data breaches, which seem to be more and more common these days.

Save yourself the mental effort of having to memorize all your passwords, and let a tool do that for you.

LastPass is my personal favorite, and 1Password is another popular choice.

3. Set Up 2-Factor Authentication

This is especially important for websites and services that control your money. Such as bank accounts, cryptocurrency wallets, and sites that store identity information.

It takes a minute to set up, but once that’s done you’re good. You get to control the confirmation method, whether it be via text message, authenticator app, or YubiKey.

Go turn on 2-factor identification on all sensitive accounts (especially those that hold $$$). Do it now before you forget.

Friends don’t let friends be unsafe on the internet.

P.S. When you purchase something using the links in this post, I may earn a small commission. These are products I personally use and recommend and I received no money from companies to write this post.
